IRISH BRIGADE MONUMENT

 

The monument commemorates the many casualties sustained by the 63rd, 69th, and

88th Regiments of the Irish Brigade at the battle of Fredericksburg, during the Civil War.

 

DATE: Saturday, December 13, 2008

TIME: 1100 TO 1230 hrs

LOCATION: Calvary 1 Cemetery, Woodside, N.Y. (718) 786-8000

                   Enter on Greenpoint Avenue at the intersection of Gale Street.

UNIFORM: BDU with patrol cap

ASSEMBLY POINT/PARKING: Drive directly to the chapel, and park in that area.

 

CEREMONY

Memorial service in the chapel conducted by LTC Eugene Sawicki, 88BDE Chaplain

 

March to the Irish Brigade Monument led by the 88BDE Color Guard, NCOIC

1SG David Perez. The piper will play Minstrel Boy the Regimental March of the 88th,

and Garry Owen, the Regimental March of the 69th.

 

Laying of the evergreen wreaths by the commanders of the 3 regiments:

88th REGT – COL James Whalen

69th REGT – LTC John Andonie

                 63rd REGT – LTC Roger Levy

 

Firing the salute by the 88BDE Color Guard

Sounding of taps by Bugler CW3 Edward Stone (VCA)

Playing of Danny Boy by the piper

 

Dismissal

 

Luncheon, sponsored by the Hibernian Foundation and Friends of the Fighting 69th, will be held in the Mural Room at the 69th Regiment Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue at 1300hrs

 

Tickets are priced at $20.00 for military and $30.00 for civilian attendees.
